2AM's "Days Like Today" reflects my mood for today. I remember when I first heard this song, I started crying because it explains perfectly what happens when you think of someone you miss so much. Looking at the old man in the music video, I couldn't help but think that that's what my grandma goes through when she thinks of my grandpa.
Check out the music video below.
Memories of my grandpa come unexpectedly. Whether it's passing by his old clinic, eating Danish butter cookies, drinking Sprite in a can, or smelling Chinese herbs--I can't help but think of my grandpa. The memories start out sweet, remembering all the times when my grandpa made me laugh or when the both of us were being silly together. Then, the sweetness fades and the tears start to flow when I think of how hard his life was and how he left us that day at the hospital. But thankfully, I still have these memories of him--ones that make me cry and ones that make me smile.
Sometimes the people who we miss or think about are still here, like a friend you haven't seen for a while or a family member who has moved away. Like in the song, you wonder how and what they are doing. If possible, let them know that you're thinking of them. A simple text, email or phone call (or you can go with the handwritten card or letter) is pretty much all you need. You'll be amazed how far the simple words, "I'm thinking of you" or "I miss you" go. Use the time you think of someone as an opportunity to tell them that you love and care about them because once they're gone, no matter how hard you try, they won't be able to hear those words.
So don't feel afraid or awkward about sending an "I'm Thinking of You" message to someone. In the words of Baek Seung-Chan ("Producers"), "You have to express it. Then...the heart may reach that person."
Have a nice day everyone!
