Ugh. Exercise. I used to cringe at that word. I'm not the most athletic type and just the thought of having to move around and become all sweaty was not my kind of thing. Back in school, I dreaded P.E. because I was always behind everyone else. Mile runs were the worst because they were 13 minutes of torture. My coordination was way off to the point that someone once told me that the objective in volleyball was to hit the ball. *sigh* So yeah, exercising of any type was not my thing.
But when I was in college, I noticed that something was not right with my body. I couldn't walk up a flight of stairs without feeling like I had just ran a marathon. My body just got tired so easily, and it was so weak that I could've even lift everyday household items like pots and pans. I thought to myself old age is definitely catching up to me, so I decided to do something about it. Coincidentally, during this time, Bubzbeauty (on Youtube) started talking about another Youtube Channel Blogilates. So because I didn't want to go to the gym (like why spend money if you can exercise at home?), I decided to try her videos.
And oh my gosh, I remember the first video I did was the Intense Ab Workout. I never thought that my abs could be so sore, but it felt good. And thus my fitness journey began, and since then I have seen so many positive changes in my life.
1.) I see changes in my body. You know, when I first started I couldn't go through a 5 minute cardio workout stopping or feeling like I was going to pass out. But, now I can do at least 2 videos without having to stop. Every day I became stronger and that feeling was so empowering. And my body shows it too. It hasn't changed into some model body, but I'm more toned and my muscles are more defined. And let me tell you a little definition has definitely boosted my confidence about my body.
2.) I see changes in how I think mentally. I never noticed how strong my mind was until I started to exercise. Sometimes there were times where the workout was very, very, very difficult, but I kept telling myself that I could do just one more rep. With this mentality, I improved from doing one push-up to 10. I learned that not giving up and believing in yourself are some of the best qualities you could have. You will find that once you put your mind to it, anything is possible.
3.) I feel less stressful. There's something about a good workout that just makes you feel really relax, especially when you get to take a nice, hot shower afterwards. Not only has exercising help clear my mind, it has also helped me sleep better. Did you know that exercising actually releases endorphins, which cause you to feel happy and relaxed? In today's stressful world, who wouldn't want that?
4.) I feel accomplished every day. I think this is what I love about exercising; I am able to set goals for myself and challenge myself every single day. Today, I'll try to do 15 squats. Tomorrow, I'll try to do 20. And nothing is more satisfying than being able to achieve the goals that you've set. I remember the first time I completed the 100 burpee challenge, I almost cried because after weeks of exercising I could finally do it without stopping. No one said that goals had to be big. The small ones are just as important.
All in all, take care of yourself and your body. If you're interested in exercising, definitely go check out Blogilates with Cassey Ho on Youtube. She has such a great personality and her positivity is so contagious. She'll work you till your muscles die, but you will just fall in love with exercising with her videos.
Have a good day!
